Wellingborough Ladies, proudly sponsored by Prop-Search, won their latest league match 1-0 against local rivals Kettering. It was Boro's first win of the season and was richly deserved.

Boro' started very strongly, playing excellent attacking hockey and were unlucky not to score in the first few minutes.  Several attacks on goal weakened the Kettering defence and Boro's confidence grew. Strong running and passing from Boro's player of the match defender Lizzie Mead helped support good attacking play from Kelly Rust and Emily Plant and put Kettering under intense pressure in the first half. Mead linked well with midfielders Jane Valentino and Jo Chapman and the pressure finally paid off with several penalty corners awarded. Boro's Jo Chapman converted one of these  after a well planned and executed penalty corner routine. Boro kept the pressure on and went in to the second half 1-0 up.

Kettering came out strongly in the second half and did put Boro under some pressure, but Boro midfielders Jo Chapman, Jane Valentino, Megan Sanders and Sue Langley kept the pressure on to make sure that Kettering didn't break across the halfway line.  And once again, any Kettering breaks were quickly broken down by Boro's strong defenders Pauline Woodthorpe, Ella Valentino and Karen Patmore, who played superbly to keep a clean sheet. Wellingborough hope to continue their good form next Saturday at 11.30am with a home match at Wrenn against Wootton 3s.

Wellingborough squad: Jane Valentino (Capt.), Sheila Nunn (GK), Ella Valentino, Lizzie Mead, Jo Chapman, Pauline Woodthorpe, Emily Plant, Megan Sanders, Kelly Rust, Karen Patmore and Sue Langley. Coach Ian Knight.
