A depleted Wellingborough side travelled to Cambridge with just 9 warriors to face a strong Cambridge south second team who Borough had sneaked a victory against earlier in the season.

Early pressure from Cambridge saw a string of penalty corners and after some good defending Wellingborough's resistance was broken with a well worked effort from Cambridge.

The next 15 minutes saw Borough settle into the game and start to move the ball well, good work up front from sole striker Matt 'Bickers' Bicknell holding up the ball and bringing in the hard working midfield of Andrew Wade, Joe Baillie, Calum Sutcliffe and 'Man of the Match' Will Hill saw Hill shoot wide for Boroughs best opportunity of the first half.

Despite great work from the borough back three of Matt Stockwell, Luke Oakley and Dave Langley Cambridge doubled their lead after a momentary lap of concentration from the otherwise virtuoso Dave Langley losing the ball at the top of the D to the Cambridge 'Centre Forward' who rounded a stranded John Bishop to complete an easy goal.

The second half saw more resolute defending from Borough with all 9 men working hard to keep Cambridge at bay, special mention to Bicknell despite injury kept running when lesser men would have given up.

Unfortunately the Cambridge pressure finally told and they sneaked one more goal past an in form Bishop who despite getting a stick to the ball couldn't keep out the thunderous strike.

Wellingborough created a few opportunities with Wade coming closest producing a fine save from the Cambridge keeper but on this occasion they couldn’t quite take the points, hard work and a fighting spirit kept the score respectable and great credit to all those who managed to make the trip.

Fianl Score Wellingborough 0 - 3 Cambridge South
